ThyssenKrupp Stops Dividend After $4.7 Billion Writedown

ThyssenKrupp AG (TKA), Germany’s biggest steelmaker, won’t pay an annual dividend after posting a second straight yearly loss, including a 3.6 billion-euro ($4.7 billion) writedown on its Steel Americas unit.

The net loss widened to 4.7 billion euros in the year ended Sept. 30, the Essen-based company said yesterday in a statement on its website. The loss was 1.29 billion euros a year earlier.

Thyssen seeks binding bids for U.S., Brazil plants

ThyssenKrupp will open its books to remaining prospective bidders for its U.S and Brazilian steel mills and ask them to make binding offers for the loss-making plants, the company said on Monday.

ThyssenKrupp said in May it was considering all options for the mills, including a partnership or a sale, to halt losses there and concentrate on its European business.

POSCO not serious about buying Thyssen assets: source

POSCO (005490.KS), the world’s fourth-biggest steelmaker, is not seriously considering buying ThyssenKrupp’s steel mills in Brazil and the United States, a source told Reuters on Tuesday.

South Korea’s POSCO submitted a first-round bid, but it simply wanted to look at the assets, the source with knowledge of the matter said on condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the deal.

Global steel companies including POSCO and ArcelorMittal (ISPA.AS) have made first-round bids for ThyssenKrupp’s steel mills in Brazil and the United States, a person close to the process said earlier this month.

CSN Said to Hire Bradesco on Bid for ThyssenKrupp’s CSA

Cia. Siderurgica Nacional SA (CSNA3), Brazil’s third-largest steelmaker by output, hired Bradesco BBI to advise on an acquisition of ThyssenKrupp AG (TKA)’s steel plant in Rio de Janeiro state, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.

As told to a German newspaper, Welt am Sonntag, on Sunday, the German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp plans to sell its U.S. and Brazilian mills separately. The company is looking for a deal for, at least, the book value, something about 7 billion euros.

Está sendo analisada a venda de duas unidades da alemã ThyssenKrupp nas Américas, entre elas a Companhia Siderúrgica do Atlântico (CSA), segundo afirmou o executivo-chefe da ArcelorMittal, Lakshmi Mittal.

“Todos estão olhando para isso, analisando isso, tentando saber quais são as sinergias e o que devemos fazer”, disse.

As declarações foram feitas depois de a Arcelor anunciar que teve lucro líquido de US$ 959 milhões no segundo trimestre deste ano, 37,7% menor do que o lucro de US$ 1,54 bilhão registrado no mesmo período do ano passado, mas maior do que a previsão de US$ 452 milhões dos analistas consultados pela Dow Jones.
